Jews and Their Muslim Neighbors in Early Soviet Georgia
Economic and Nationalities Policies Aspects
This book explores the impact of Soviet policies on Georgia’s national and cultural landscape, focusing on the resettlement of ethnic minorities, particularly the Turk-Meskhetian population. Their relocation influenced the strengthening of Jewish and Armenian communities, shaping national narratives and regional ethnic dynamics. Special attention is given to the effects of regional security challenges on Jewish-Muslim relations.
Based on archival research and oral history interviews conducted in 2024, the study draws from documents in the Georgian National Archives, including records from Akhaltsikhe and Batumi. It analyzes official Communist Party documents, personal letters, and financial data of collective farms. Despite limitations in both archival and oral sources, this work provides a foundation for further research on ethnic and religious minorities in early Soviet Georgia.
